A mansion and formal gardens - a walk-and-look visit rather than somewhere small children can be loud.
77-room French château and 300-acre formal gardens — the most dramatic family setting in NCC. Best for ages 5+ (mansion tour requires attention span; gardens great for all ages). The long allée, reflecting pool, and chateau backdrop are genuinely impressive. Children 5 and under are free. Key events worth planning around: Halloween Trick-or-Treat (costumed trick-or-treating on the grounds; all-ages, candy-free, hay maze, food trucks — one of the best Halloween events in Delaware) and Holiday at Nemours (Dec). General admission is underrated for a low-key weekday garden visit — quiet, beautiful, unhurried.

Seasonal hours
Seasonal venue: May–December only. Best times: late May through September for gardens at their peak. The grand allée (1/3-mile formal garden axis) is the visual centerpiece — best in spring and fall color. Family event highlights: Pumpkins at Nemours (Oct weekends): Jack-o-lantern displays, hayrides, fall activities — one of the best fall family outings in NCC, advance tickets required. Holiday at Nemours (Dec): decorated mansion + outdoor lights — very popular, book early.

Free on-site lot. ~100 spaces; entry off Alapocas Dr. Clearly signed. Never fills except peak event days (Halloween Trick-or-Treat, Holiday at Nemours — expect limited spots and plan to arrive early).
