The Pick
Eco Explorers: Outdoor Learning Adventure - NEA Big Read
ages 6–10 · Free · Brandywine Hundred Library · outdoor 🚗 9 min from Wilmington
A free, hands-on nature session for elementary kids — native plants, pollinators, clean water, and live demonstrations. Billed as outdoor, but Saturday is rainy at 53°, so call ahead about an indoor backup at Brandywine Hundred Library. Designed for ages 6-10.
Why this made the cut
Free, hands-on, and pitched right at 6-10 — the sweet spot for this segment. The Memorial Day weather is iffy, so a library-run nature program with likely indoor backup beats a pure outdoor pick.

Field Notes — DMNS Nature Nook — hidden gem
The Nature Nook at the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science is our hidden gem — built for very young kids but with plenty to hold older ones up to around 8. We end up there every visit.

Did You Know?
Ask the front desk about the day's live animal presentation when you walk in — a naturalist brings critters out for an up-close look, it's free with admission, and it's the easiest thing to miss if you don't ask.
