What to Expect

Glasgow Park is what every county park should be — 250 acres, free, well-maintained, and varied enough that you can spend a morning without it feeling repetitive. Three playgrounds (including the H!gh 5 inclusive sensory playground designed with Autism Delaware), a fishing pond with a paved loop, a fenced dog park, a skate bowl, tennis and basketball courts, and a covered pavilion.

The fishing pond loop is a nice 10-15 minute stroller walk, and you'll see geese, ducks, and herons. There are open lawns big enough to fly a kite or kick a soccer ball. The pavilion is the social anchor on event days.

Summer concert nights (Thursdays 6:30–8 PM, June through August) are the secret-best thing in southern NCC. Bring a blanket, dinner, kids in PJs, and let them run around on the grass while a local band plays. It's exactly the kind of low-stakes summer evening that's hard to manufacture otherwise.

**Playground closure (Nov 2025 – late spring 2026):** the main playground is being rebuilt as a new inclusive playground. If the playground is the whole reason you're driving over, check the NCC Parks site first. The pond, paths, lawns, and skate bowl stay open.

The vibe is suburban-Newark family. You'll see strollers, scooters, and pickup soccer. Not a tourist destination — just a really good park.

Did You Know?

Glasgow Park's H!gh 5 Sensory Playground was designed in partnership with Autism Delaware — low-stim zones, accessible equipment, built specifically as a fully inclusive playground for kids of every ability.

Who It's Best For

Babies and toddlers: shaded playground areas, easy stroller loops, the pond walk. Preschoolers: climbing structures, the H!gh 5 inclusive sensory playground, open lawns. Elementary: bigger playground equipment, fishing pond, bike paths, the skate bowl. Tweens: walking paths, summer concerts, basketball and tennis courts, skate bowl, dog-watching at the dog park.

Highlights

Playgrounds (H!gh 5 Inclusive Sensory + Main)

Ages 1-10

Three playgrounds across the park. The H!gh 5 Sensory Playground was designed with Autism Delaware for kids of all abilities. The main playground is closed for an inclusive rebuild Nov 2025 – late spring 2026; confirm reopening before relying on it.

Summer Concert Series

All ages

Thursday evenings 6:30–8 PM, June–August, at the pavilion. Free, family-friendly, blanket-and-picnic vibe. Food trucks and farmers market often on site. Check NCC Parks & Rec for the lineup.

Fishing Pond

All ages

Stocked pond with a paved loop walk. Casual fishing is allowed (DE fishing license required for ages 16+). Geese and ducks are reliably present.

Open Lawns and Paths

Ages 3+

Big enough for kite-flying, soccer, frisbee, or a scooter loop. The main path is a flat, paved oval — perfect first-bike territory.

What to Skip with Little Ones

  • The dog park section unless your kids are confident around dogs.
  • Fishing without bringing your own supplies — there's no rental concession.
  • Counting on the main playground between Nov 2025 and late spring 2026 — it's under construction. The H!gh 5 Sensory Playground stays open and is excellent.

Logistics

Admission

Free admission

Park, playgrounds, and concerts are all free. Some special events (carnival, festivals) may charge for individual attractions.

Getting There

Parking

Multiple free lots throughout the park. The main lot off Pulaski Hwy (Route 40) is closest to the playground area.

The main lot fills on hot summer Saturdays and during concert nights. Secondary lots are a short, mostly-paved walk away. No parking meters or fees ever.

Entrance

Main entrance off Pulaski Hwy (Route 40). Multiple paved paths fan out from the main lot to the playgrounds, pavilion, and pond.

Parent Logistics

👶 Strollers Friendly

Excellent. The whole park is on paved paths or short grass. The loop around the pond is stroller-friendly. The playground has accessible elements.

🚻 Bathrooms

Permanent restrooms near the playground area. Open year-round but condition varies — they're county park bathrooms, not white-glove. Adequate for a quick change.

🚼 Changing Tables

Changing tables in the main restroom building.

⛱️ Shade

Mixed. The playgrounds have partial shade from canopies and trees. The open lawns and walking paths are mostly exposed. The pavilion is covered. Bring sunscreen and hats.

Food & Snacks

No food on-site. No permanent concession. Some summer events bring food trucks. The pavilion has tables for a picnic.

Snack strategy: Pack everything. Coolers and picnics are welcome at the pavilions and pond-side tables. Wawa is right across Route 40 if you forgot something.

Pro Tips

  • Thursday concert nights: arrive by 6:00 PM, claim a blanket spot on the lawn near the pavilion. Music runs 6:30–8 PM.
  • There's a Wawa across Route 40 — coffee for parents, juice boxes for kids, no detour needed.
  • If you came for the playground during the 2025–26 closure, the H!gh 5 Sensory Playground is the consolation prize and it's genuinely good — designed with Autism Delaware, low-stim zones, accessible equipment.
  • Pair the pond loop with a kite or a soccer ball — the open lawns are the best part for elementary kids.

When to Go
